Award in Severing Uprooted and Windblown Trees Using a Chainsaw 21-02

City and Guilds / NPTC Level 3

(formally CS34 and CS35)

Severing Uprooted or Windblown Trees 21-02 (formally CS34/35)

The Award in Severing Uprooted or Windblown Trees using a Chainsaw is a level 3 unit, the previous CS34 Award to Sever Individual Windblown Trees and CS35 Award to Sever Multiple Windblown Trees have been combined to produce this level 3 training course.

Uprooted windblown trees is a course designed for people who want to advance their career and those arboricultural workers, tree surgeons or forestry workers who have had some experience in the industry due to the dangers involved and the practice needed in reading the stress and strains in felling trees.

This practical course will enable candidates to correctly state the regulations and safety requirements relating to chainsaw use and assess the hazards and risks involved. By assessing lying windblown timber, partially windblown and broken timber the candidate will be able to take a decision on appropriate action and cut the timber using appropriate techniques and control the movement of root plates.

This course has physical demands and requires the carrying and movement of equipment in woodland and forest environments.

It is also strongly advised that candidates have attended a full first aid training course.

Please note: the felling sites are located in remote locations in commercial forests within a 50mile radius of Settle. You need to be able to drive, have a suitable vehicle for logging roads and make your own way to the felling site.
