A level 3 course for people who wanting to advance their career in arboriculture. Ideally you need to have some experience of the dangers involved in the industry. You should already be able to read the stresses and strains the tree comes under when it is felled, you should also be confident in being able to fell trees safely without cutting through your hinges and take into considerations any changes in weather conditions.
The CS50 Award in Emergency Tree Work Operations course gives you the techniques and safety guidelines to grow your confidence and be capable of dealing with trees in emergency situations, this is important because more and more trees are being uprooted every year due to our weather conditions.
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- state the regulations and safety requirements relating to chainsaw use;
- assess the hazards and risks involved;
- Deal with lying windblown timber, partially windblown and broken timber and then;
- cut the timber using appropriate techniques and control the movement of root plates.
The CS50 course is physically demanding and requires the carrying of equipment in woodland and forest environments.
An accredited first aid qualification is an advantage due to the dangerous nature of the job.
Please note: The felling sites are located in remote locations in commercial forests within a 50mile radius of Settle. You need to be able to drive, have a suitable vehicle for logging roads and make your own way to the felling site. Directions will be provided on the first day at the Settle workshop.
