Lowe Maintenance Winner of the Yorkshire Post Rural Awards 2021 Rural Innovation Award

We did it – WINNER of the Rural Innovation Award 2021

Rural Innovation was a new award category for the Yorkshire Post Rural Awards 2021. Judges were specifically looking for a business that had risen to the challenges of 2020 and 2021 through the global pandemic and had come up with a game-changing innovation to tackle the problems which we all shared, along with adapting to help others with the challenges faced.

I’m sure we don’t have to tell anyone how difficult this last couple of years has been for anybody, let alone those who run their own business. We didn’t have the option to be furloughed, but we also didn’t want to, even if we could have been. We spent part of the first lockdown in March and April 2020 putting plans together for how to continue training and keeping all our candidates as safe as possible, from the very moment we started training again.

Previous winner of the Rural Business and Professional Services award in 2018 and 2019, based on unbeatable customer service

Since the last triumph at the 2019 Yorkshire Post Rural Awards, we have gone above and beyond, pioneering new standards for our industry during a pandemic and completely overhauling the customer journey from start to finish. Many of our candidates sung highly of our efforts during this time and continue to do so in course evaluations.

Just a few of the many things we did as part of our pioneering innovations include:

  • introducing tree climbing dummies (Max and Paddy) to allow for social distancing
  • offering a free safety pack upon arrival
  • bringing in CRM technology, to encompass workflows and automation throughout the candidate journey
  • building a new website, which is a fully interactive hub of information, where visitors can find everything they need to know about courses, read or watch video testimonials, view live availability and book online
  • development of the Lowe Maintenance portal, where all course details are held from the moment a course is booked, along with automated workflows to include reminders of course dates
  • assigning individual tree climbing kits allocated for the course and assessment
  • use of a sanitising fogging machine
  • weekly live Question and Answer sessions on social media with industry specialists.

Team spirit, sticking with it and keeping going all the elements of success

The awards evening was a fabulous affair, which not only Demelza attended (Phill doesn’t do nights out!), but as a huge thank you to some of the team, Demelza took with her (left to right):

Lots of laughter and networking to be had at such a fine venue and event.

Winning a Yorkshire Post Rural Award three years in a row is the most amazing recognition for all our hard work

Undoubtedly, this has truly been a team effort and although we are a mighty husband and wife duo, this was only possible due to the amazing people that we work with on a daily basis. Therefore, the biggest thanks go to everyone that works with us throughout the year, in the good weather and equally, the wet and soggy.

Rural Business and Professional Services award

After winning this award in 2018 and 2019, we were happy to be shortlisted again this year. Although we weren’t successful in this category this time, to be a finalist in what has probably been the most difficult few years any business could face is truly amazing in itself.

Furthermore, not winning this award doesn’t change the fact that our candidate focus is second to none. We continue to offer training to an exceptionally high standard, ensuring that the candidates leave with not only the qualification, but confidence. With our guidance, they develop a greater depth of knowledge and understanding in their course subject as well as knowing how to stay safe in the land based sector. In addition, they have ongoing access to the portal for relevant industry updates.

Clearly, our personable service continues to stand out, and we are confident this will never falter.
